History of the Irish Community in Leeds

Progression of Irish Community:
From the early 1820's when a small number of weavers from Tipperary settled in East Leeds on the 'The Bank'. Several years later saw influx of people mostly from County Mayo to the same area; the numbers grew after The Famine in 1847. Irish Immigration continued into the fifties and sixties before there was a gradual slowdown to the 'trickle' we see today.
